The Liberal-led State Government has proudly delivered early on its four-year, $50 million election commitment to build an additional 3,000 car bays at railway stations along the Joondalup and Mandurah lines.
Albert Jacob MLA, Member for Ocean Reef said after reaching the 3,000 car bay commitment, he is pleased to see more bays continue to roll out, for the benefit of local commuters.
“The latest upgrade will see a new section on the north west-side of the existing Currambine car park add approximately 120 extra bays for local commuters.
“These new bays, along with those completed earlier in the year, have increased parking at Currambine by 250 bays, taking the total to more than 1000.
“The increase in car bays at Currambine Train Station will encourage further use of public transport and benefit commuters and the electorate as a whole.”
Transport Minister Troy Buswell said the original election commitment was recently exceeded and indicated the Government was on track to exceed the original target by up to 50 per cent.
“The Liberal-National Government committed almost $50million to provide 3,000 new car parking bays on the Joondalup and Mandurah lines, the busiest on our rail network, and we have exceeded that promise,” Mr Buswell said.
“The opening of the new bays at Currambine Station takes the total number of new bays to 3,992, at 13 different locations.
“We are now on the way to going above and beyond our original commitment, with the total number of new bays expected to reach 4,516 in the next few months.
“Overall, this will be an increase of almost 45 per cent on the number of car bays available at stations along the Joondalup and Mandurah lines since September 2008” Mr Buswell said.
