New Year - New Electoral Boundaries

Read a summary from Albert below

As you may be aware, the Electoral Commission has recently re-drawn the electoral boundaries across the State.

These new electoral boundaries will bring about a number of significant changes to the electorate that I represent, including an electorate name change from “Ocean Reef” to “Burns Beach”.

The electorate of Burns Beach will now include Joondalup (suburb) and Clarkson while the suburbs of Mullaloo and Ocean Reef will be moved into the electorate of Joondalup.

At a local level, whilst I am looking forward to gaining Joondalup (suburb) and Clarkson, I am saddened to be losing Ocean Reef and Mullaloo.

Ocean Reef and Mullaloo are suburbs that I have represented since May 2006, almost 10 years.

I am immensely grateful to have met and worked with so many wonderful local people over the past decade, for the friends that I have made in the process and to have played a part in delivering so many local outcomes.

I have worked with the City of Joondalup to see the Ocean Reef Marina project progress from a thought bubble to a live proposal now at the State planning and environmental approvals stage and I will continue to support this project.

I have worked to deliver new jetties at Ocean Reef Marina and a new rescue boat for Whitfords Volunteer Sea Rescue.

I worked with the local community to deliver a skate park at Mirror Park and for upgrades to schools such as Mullaloo Heights Primary School and Ocean Reef Senior High School and had CCTV cameras installed at the Mullaloo beach foreshore, just to name a few.

I believe that I have been a part of making a positive difference for the Mullaloo and Ocean Reef communities over the past 10 years, and I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to be your representative over this time.

I am now looking forward to the opportunity to represent the suburbs of Joondalup and Clarkson, to meeting many new residents and to work hard toward achieving new outcomes for these local communities.

There have already been many outcomes which I have worked towards for these suburbs.

I led the northern suburbs charge to get government funding to extend the Mitchell Freeway north to Hester Avenue and I have successfully achieved an increase in police presence with an expansion at the Clarkson police station.

The suburb of Joondalup has been a neighbour to my electorate for many years and I have been involved in many projects which have already benefitted Joondalup, including large expansions of HBF Arena and Joondalup Health Campus.  I look forward to meeting as many local residents as possible and advocating strongly on your behalf for the Joondalup community.

Despite significant boundary changes, I am pleased that my home will remain in my local electorate and my office will still be above the London Café between Currambine Central and Dan Murphy's.

If ever you need assistance, advice or just want to say hi, please drop in or call my office on 9305 4099.

May I wish you and your loved ones a happy, healthy and prosperous 2016.
