Mindarie Senior College gymnasium officially opens
The new $5million, state of the art gymnasium at Mindarie Senior College was officially opened by the Honourable Peter Collier MLC, Minister for Education on 24 October 2014.
Ocean Reef MLA Albert Jacob was delighted to see a key election commitment of his delivered within a two-year period. After listening to the school community and seeing a need for the gymnasium to supplement the existing highly exposed outdoor sports areas, Albert took the necessary action to make it possible.
“This is a great result for the school, our community and the Liberal-led State Government”, Mr Jacob said.
“I commend Minister Collier on the role he played in seeing this gymnasium delivered in such a short time frame.
“I am grateful to be a part of a government that is committed to improving our local schools.”
The new facility includes changerooms, staff and store rooms and will enable the school to continue its role as a pillar of Perth’s northern suburbs education system.
Albert & Education Minister make good use of new gymnasium
Following the formal proceedings of the gymnasium opening at Mindarie Senior College, Ocean Reef MLA Albert Jacob took to the rock climbing wall, in his suit and all. This proved no trouble for Albert, who made it to the top in no time.
However, it was the events that took place after this that caught the eye of guests, teachers and students, as Albert went head-to-head with Minister Collier on the badminton court.
Albert and Minister Collier battled it out in their suits and ties in a rather unexpected yet highly competitive match held in the new gymnasium.
As guests enjoyed morning tea, they were treated to a display of an unseen side of our politicians as both Ministers ran, jumped and even pulled the odd drop shot.
Whilst there was no official score-keeping, it appeared that Minister Collier’s professional background in tennis proved too strong, despite the athleticism and youthfulness of Albert.
This was a highlight for all in attendance at the opening, and a great opportunity for Albert and Minister Collier to experience the state of the art facilities.
